A Message From Our Pastor

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about Crums Church. As you get to know us I think you will discover a church of imperfect people relying on God’s grace to help us grow in our love for God and for others. My goal is that we be people with a mission mindset of seeking to show others God’s love because our lives have been changed by that same love. I believe real faith changes the way we live in this world. Forgiveness and rebirth and hope are what we have found in Christ, so now we are trying to work out that faith with fear and trembling and maybe even some humility. 

I could talk about all the ways we are trying to do this, but the proof in is the pudding, so come check us out. We’d love to welcome you on this journey with us as we seek to live as followers of Jesus, truly alive in Him.

P.S. There are many things I take very seriously in my leadership. The value and inspiration of Scripture. The importance of practicing the Spiritual Disciplines for our personal and corporate piety. The need for a personal experience of being born again and the Christian Action and Study which will naturally follow. The value of Christian friends and fellowship and corporate worship. The necessity of forgiving and loving others. The importance of serving others and sharing God’s love with everyone in this polarizing and divisive world. The usefulness of John Wesley’s method and the importance of God’s grace empowering everything we do. Faith is both a simple belief and a life of response to God’s love.

 FAQs

  • Our 9 AM Worship service meets in the Fellowship Hall and includes music led by our praise band, a Scripturally based message, and communion each week. We average about 125 in attendance and the service lasts about 70 minutes. Plan on sharing a row with someone. Children ages 4 to 2nd grade have children’s church during the 9 AM message. We have Sunday school classes for all ages beginning at 10:15, including two adult classes. Our 11:15 AM worship meets in the Sanctuary and sings hymns, has a choir, hears the message, and celebrates communion the first Sunday of each month. This service averages around 32 people and lasts about 60 minutes. Nursery is available up to 4 years old. All are encouraged to participate in communion. 

  • We are a Bible believing congregation in the Wesleyan tradition. The Apostle’s Creed is a great summation of our beliefs. We emphasize the grace of God, and the forgiveness offered to all who will repent of their sins and accept the forgiveness purchased for us on the Cross. We believe all can become children of God by grace through faith in Jesus. We worship the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe real faith produces real love for others and personal obedience to Christ. We know we do not deserve the blessings we have received, and out of gratitude we seek to share the good news that God’s love is available to all.

  • Yes – comfortable. In the 9 AM service it is rare to see any suits, but perhaps a few ties. They are outnumbered by t-shirts and casual attire. In the 11:15 worship in the sanctuary you will find more coats and ties, but many are more casually attired.

  • Anthony Crum set up Crum’s Church in 1792. For many years it was a station on a preaching circuit in the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1968 it became Crums United Methodist Church, still on a circuit with two other churches. In 2003, Pastor Sandy Stamey was appointed as our first full time pastor, followed by Hyo Lee and then Tom Barnard. David Graves was appointed in 2019. In 2022 the congregation voted to become an independent church, departing the UMC and incorporating as Crums Church, governed by our Church Council. We have kept the name Crums Church in honor of the Crums family as we seek to be a church for the whole community.

  • Yes, for a fee. Call for more details. The sanctuary has stained glass windows, seats 90 comfortably, and does not have a center aisle. The Fellowship Hall seats up to 165 and can be set up with tables and chairs for about 130 people.
